Psychotherapy, like counselling, is a form of talking therapy. Psychotherapy utilises psychological techniques to overcome issues and improve mental health and wellbeing. Psychotherapy is used to help change people’s behaviours, negative beliefs, thoughts and emotions. Psychotherapy is regularly used to help people to overcome compulsive behaviours where they feel that they are not fully in control.

Psychotherapy can be used on an individual basis or as part of a group including family sessions.

Psychotherapy can also be used with hypnosis in a form of treatment known as hypnoanalysis.  This incorporates the psychoanalysis developed by Sigmund Freud with hypnosis that is used for resolving issues in the subconscious mind.

BWRT Kent

BWRT is an acronym for BrainWorking Recursive Therapy and it is a form of psychotherapy but also different as it is quicker including resolving some issues in just 1 session.

The therapy was created after Terence Watts read a scientific study talking about how the fight/flight/freeze response centre of the brain reacts to stimuli in our environment half a second before we start to notice the responses and reactions within ourselves.  This lead him to pursue the idea of creating a therapy that would work on these automatic responses before they started to engage and replace them with the desired response of the client.

All of these responses are stored in the subconscious part of the mind where that part of the mind can’t make judgments and instead runs automated programs without us having to even think about it.  This is great for times when there is a real threat or danger to us even down to the basic functions such as breathing.  When these automatic responses are working in the right way they are excellent but when they aren’t is when you need to look at BWRT.
